Hold on (we haven't gone mad). If you had a lower-level patio or finished basement, you would view the wood deck in front of you like your bad stepbrother. What is the reason? It's because a deck is the ultimate SPF 50 option for your basement or patio below. It blocks out all sunlight. It's true that without light, your patio isn't going to suffer sunburn. However, it's also dark.
In the absence of light, your basement is damp and dark. Who wants to enter a dark space (even people suffering from migraines prefer to be doing something different)?
Why allow your deck to block sunlight from that patio beneath? The perfect (and extremely cool) solution to this issue is to use glass structural decking. Planking for glass decks can be put inside an aluminum framing structure to provide two times the structural strength of the wood floor. If you're concerned about the "skirt factor" (i.e., anyone looking up from the lower floor below and invading the privacy of a woman who is on the higher level), do not fret glass floors come in clear and opaque glass. There's even frit that is non-skid on the top of the glass, so there's no need the worry about falling onto the glass in the event of rain (or snows).
It is important to note that if you wish to go all out with this, put LED lighting on the bottom of the glass floor. Then you'll get a floor that is lit at night. How cool is that?
A table made of glass that has water running through it. How incredible would that be?
This can have inspirational writing on the glass. The aluminum base below has continuous water flowing through it. It's a great idea to have a relaxing meal or lunch in the water, or simply relax and listen to the sounds of water if your area seems as dehydrated as bone.
The glass block outdoor shower and pool building were constructed to entertain guests. The glass block wall that curves was the idea of an elderly grandma who wanted her grandchildren to invite friends over to take advantage of her pool and home. It's private but also open.
The boring wood accessory - also known as the tiny deck put up by the home builder 20 years ago is now out. The latest trend is kitchens and outdoor spaces. There are extravagant Sub-zero appliances, including smokers, pizza ovens, and fire pits. Outdoor living has gone fashionable (you'll be thrown in the jail by the Fashion Police if you leave out those plastic folding chairs your grandmother gave you).
With the increasing popularity of outdoor living in the present, adding color and unique design to your outdoor rooms (AKA terraces, decks, and gardens) is sensible.
